Feeling such a heavy heart with everything going on in our country right now. I woke up this morning, as perhaps many did, feeling quite helpless.
I see so many posts on my Facebook and Instagram of stitching…because stitchers are my people and my community and, in a lot of ways, a deeply important part of my world. And yet, I am so very aware of all the other posts, the non-stitching related posts, that have been a part of my world, particularly in the last few days.
We stitchers typically channel our energies into our stitching, often when we are hurting the most. Here’s where my energy got channeled today:
I’m offering this pattern as a freebie for anyone to download here: WorksByABCInjustice
If you choose to download this, I hope you will in exchange consider making a donation to a charity of your choice. If you are looking for ideas, these have been suggested to me by friends:
- A friend who lives in the Twin Cities sent me this article with links to ways to help local groups and businesses there
- Campaign Zero
- Black Lives Matter
- StayWoke
- This page on CharityNavigator.org has a number of suggestions for civil rights organizations.
Of course, I encourage you to do your own due diligence before making donations to any charities.
In addition, I’ve seen this Anti-racism Google Doc posted in a number of places. Definitely worth a look.
Do what you can in the world.
Thank you for this wonderful chart, Arlene. It truly expresses my feelings as I have been very emotional lately and even more so these last few days. The anger, lies and hatred spreading throughout our country must stop. What it will take to end this, I’m not sure but I think expressing ourselves in some way is a start. I enjoy listening to you on your YouTube channel and on Fibertalk and will make a couple of donations in June.
