Floral Lace

Today I would like to share with you about one of my new designs, Floral Lace.  It is one of the four new ones that will be debuting at the Nashville Needlework Market in less than two weeks.

As with a few other of my lace inspired designs, this one is based off of an actual piece of lace, in this case a small filet lace table runner or table mat.  Whatever its original usage was, I saw the potential of a cross stitch design in it.

I decided to use a technique that I used successfully once before: stitching some areas with one strand of thread, some areas with two strands of thread, and some areas with three strands of thread. At first glance, it might seem like I used different shades of white against the navy fabric, but no – this effect was achieved by simply using different numbers of strands.

I loved the way this piece turned out and, at 5 inches by 8 inches on 28 count fabric, it was not a huge stitching project.  Because of the three strand usage, it really is best (if one is going to stitch as I have stitched it) to go with a 28 count (or 14 count aida) fabric.

This pattern, along with my other three (to be featured in upcoming blog posts) will be available at the Nashville Needlework Market in the Hoffman Distributing room.  Tell you local needlework stores!  After the Market, it will be available on my Etsy store.
